Benefits of membership

Membership in FPES is open to all daily and weekly newspapers in the state of Florida. FPES also offers Associate memberships.

FPES membership offers many advantages to NIE programs and newspapers. Benefit from the assistance, knowledge and experience available to you within a network of Florida Newspaper in Education professionals. Member benefits include:

  • Opportunity to reach educators and K-12 students throughout the state of Florida.
  • Assistance with curriculum development and Florida Standards compliance.
  • Assistance with audit compliance.
  • Opportunity to participate in statewide revenue-producing educational publications and other projects.
  • Access to members-only library of NIE materials, resources and best practices.
  • Opportunity to connect with statewide government agencies and professional organizations affiliated with FPES.
  • Opportunity to participate in statewide advertising, marketing and promotional activities.
  • Opportunity to use FPES 501(c)(3) status to raise tax-deductible funds to support your newspaper’s NIE program.

Training and professional development opportunities

  • Annual Summer Training Conference: This conference, held in conjunction with the annual Florida Media Conference, offers in-depth professional development as well as the opportunity to network with hundreds of NIE, editorial and marketing professionals. The Friend of NIE Award is presented annually at the convention. FPES members receive a substantial discount on conference registration fees and lodging. Travel scholarships are available to FPES members.
  • Annual Fall Training/Business Meeting: This one-day meeting offers a variety of training sessions, roundtable discussions and business updates. There is no registration fee for FPES members to attend this meeting.
  • General membership conference calls: These bi-monthly calls offer ongoing and timely training and support on NIE topics including audits, revenue opportunities and best practices.
  • Scholarships and travel stipends: FPES offers financial assistance for members to attend out-of-town FPES events.

Associate Membership

An Associate membership in FPES can be extended to the following persons or organizations in the  following categories, provided in each case that the prospective Associate member is closely and directly  allied to the newspaper industry: a) an authorized representative of trade journals, news publications  other than newspapers, firms engaged in the sale or distribution of newspaper services or supplies; b)  Educational organizations in Florida; c) teachers of journalism in regionally accredited schools and  colleges; d) individual persons working for an Active member; e) former editors and publishers; or an authorized representative of a daily and weekly newspaper in a state other than Florida.

Associate members shall be entitled to all social privileges of the Association but are not entitled to participate in the official business, discussions, voting, or the holding of office by reason of their Associate membership. Nothing herein contained shall exclude an Associate member from holding an office for  which Active membership is not required, provided that such Associate member is duly elected or  appointed to such office.
